Tooth Extraction Aftercare
Simple guidance to help you heal comfortably
🔴 First 24 Hours (Most Important)
Bite firmly on the gauze for 30–60 minutes
If bleeding continues, replace with fresh gauze and apply pressure
Do not rinse, spit, or use a straw
Avoid hot food and drinks
Rest — avoid exercise or heavy activity
👉 A small amount of oozing is normal
🟡 Pain & Swelling
Take pain relief as advised
Use an ice pack on the cheek:
10 minutes on, 10 minutes off
Swelling usually peaks around 2–3 days after the procedure
👉 Mild discomfort is expected — it should gradually improve
🟢 Eating & Drinking
Stick to soft foods for the first few days
(e.g. yoghurt, soup, eggs, mashed foods)Chew on the opposite side
Drink plenty of fluids
Avoid alcohol and smoking
🔵 Cleaning Your Mouth
Do not rinse for the first 24 hours
After 24 hours:
Gently rinse with warm salt water (2–3 times daily)
Continue brushing your teeth
Avoid the extraction site initially
