Tooth Extraction Aftercare

Simple guidance to help you heal comfortably

🔴 First 24 Hours (Most Important)

  • Bite firmly on the gauze for 30–60 minutes

  • If bleeding continues, replace with fresh gauze and apply pressure

  • Do not rinse, spit, or use a straw

  • Avoid hot food and drinks

  • Rest — avoid exercise or heavy activity

👉 A small amount of oozing is normal

🟡 Pain & Swelling

  • Take pain relief as advised

  • Use an ice pack on the cheek:

    • 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off

  • Swelling usually peaks around 2–3 days after the procedure

👉 Mild discomfort is expected — it should gradually improve

🟢 Eating & Drinking

  • Stick to soft foods for the first few days
    (e.g. yoghurt, soup, eggs, mashed foods)

  • Chew on the opposite side

  • Drink plenty of fluids

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking

🔵 Cleaning Your Mouth

  • Do not rinse for the first 24 hours

  • After 24 hours:

    • Gently rinse with warm salt water (2–3 times daily)

  • Continue brushing your teeth

    • Avoid the extraction site initially
