A confident smile can change how you feel every day. ORA Orthodontics brings specialist orthodontic treatment to Milldale, so you and your family can see a registered specialist orthodontist close to home.
Every ORA Orthodontics patient is treated by Dr Allen Hu, a registered specialist orthodontist, working alongside our general dental team. Our care is calm, unhurried, and judgment-free, whether you're looking into options for a child's developing smile or thinking about treatment for yourself, we'll guide you through every step and help you choose the path that fits your teeth, your lifestyle, and your budget.
Why see a specialist orthodontist?
All orthodontists start as dentists but a specialist orthodontist has completed several additional years of full-time university training focused solely on the movement of teeth and the alignment of jaws.
In New Zealand, only practitioners who have completed this recognised specialist training and are registered by the Dental Council in the orthodontic scope may call themselves a specialist orthodontist. It's a title you have to earn, and one you can verify.
At ORA Orthodontics, your treatment is planned and provided by a registered specialist from your very first visit, so you can feel confident you're in expert hands.

When to see an orthodontist
Orthodontic treatment does more than straighten teeth, it improves how your teeth bite together, which supports long-term dental health. Here are some of the common concerns we help with:
Crowding
When there isn't enough room in the jaw for all the teeth, they can overlap, twist, or become pushed out of line. In more severe cases, some teeth may not come through at all.
Increased overjet
When the upper front teeth sit well ahead of the lower teeth (sometimes described as teeth that "stick out"). This can be due to the position of the teeth, the jaws, or both.
Deepbite
When the upper front teeth overlap the lower teeth too far. Over time, a deep bite can contribute to wear and gum problems.
Crossbite
When one or more upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth. This can sometimes cause the jaw to shift into an uneven position.
Spacing
Gaps between the teeth, often caused by smaller or missing teeth. Treatment usually focuses on closing the spaces and improving the overall bite.
Underbite (reverse overjet)
When the upper front teeth sit behind the lower teeth. This is often related to jaw growth and is best assessed early.
Openbite
When the front teeth don't meet when biting down. This can be linked to thumb-sucking habits or jaw growth patterns.
Impacted or missing teeth
When teeth don't come through as they should, or fail to develop. Treatment may involve creating space and gently guiding a tooth into place.
Our treatment options
We offer two well-established pathways to a straighter smile. At your consultation, Allen will talk through which option suits your case, your goals, and your day-to-day life.
Fixed braces - American Orthodontics
For reliable, hands-off treatment, our fixed braces use appliances from American Orthodontics, a long-established orthodontic manufacturer. Fixed braces are bonded to the teeth and work continuously between visits, making them a versatile option, including for more complex tooth movements.
Modern brackets are smaller and more comfortable than the braces of the past, and are suitable for children, teenagers, and adults alike.
Clear aligners - Angel Aligners
For a more discreet, removable option, we offer clear aligner treatment using the Angel Aligners system. A series of custom-made, near-invisible aligners gradually guides your teeth into position.
Clear aligners are:
Discreet - hardly noticeable day-to-day
Removable - take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss
Custom-made - designed to fit your teeth precisely
Clear aligners are a popular choice for image-conscious teens and adults. At your consultation, Allen will let you know whether aligners are well suited to your particular case.
